Electrodes for discharge lamps that are exposed to very high temperature by arc are made of tungsten. However, conventional tungsten materials cannot offer a satisfactory life characteristic demanded by recent high-output, large-size lamps. The SMD tungsten has achieved the world’s highest density and provides excellent heat conduction. When combined with optimum materials, the tungsten rods open a new road for electrodes for discharge lamps.

・By applying plastic working above a certain working ratio, a high density tungsten material can be obtained. As the electrode becomes larger, plastic working of a higher working ratio is required.
